The Justice League workout routines

The most iconic superheroes in DC Comics history are coming together as a team on the big screen for the first time in 2017's Justice League: Part 1. Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Flash, and Cyborg form the core of the team. 

​Playing a superhero in a film these days comes with requirements of having muscle everywhere and a shredded physique. This helps them to not only look like they belong on the pages of a comic book, but also to make their super powers seem plausible. You can see what the Justice League workout routines and diet plans look like below.

Justice League Director Zack Snyder is known for having his cast be in great shape. Snyder is fit himself and rose to fame for directing the film 300 in 2006, which consisted of ripped shirtless men in battle. Snyder frequently has members of his cast work with personal trainer Mark Twight of Gym Jones to help them more closely resemble their comic book character. 

Batman - Ben Affleck

As the only "normal", non-powered member of the Justice League, it is important for Bruce Wayne/Batman to be at the peak of human physical condition. Ben Affleck has had a lean physique for most of his career, but really bulked up to portray the Dark Knight. 

Affleck worked out for more than a year to get in Batman shape. ​Snyder wanted Affleck to look like the biggest Batman yet, which he definitely accomplished. At 6'4", he eventually got up to 228 pounds at just 7.9 percent body fat. 

Superman - Henry Cavill

Prior to being cast as Clark Kent/Superman in 2013's Man of Steel, Cavill already had a very lean physique. He added significant muscle mass to his frame to look like the most iconic superhero of all time. His workouts focused on heavy lifting with leg and chest workouts that added size and strength. His diet consisted of 5,000 calories per day of relatively clean eating with things like lean protein and vegetables. 

Wonder Woman - Gal Gadot

Gadot might have the most impressive transformation of anyone on this list. Previously a very lean model, she added significant muscle mass after earning the role of Diana Prince/Wonder Woman. To portray the warrior princess, she focused on loads of bodyweight resistance training and upped her dietary intake, with a focus on lean protein. 

Aquaman - Jason Momoa

At 6'4" and over 200 pound, Momoa already could bring the intimidating presence needed to play the King of the seas as Arthur Curry/Aquaman. He had previously played Khal Drago in Game of Thrones and starred in 2011's Conan the Barbarian. He already had done the training needed to be huge and shredded. 

Cyborg - Ray Fisher

Fisher was already in great shape prior to earning the role of Victor Stone/Cyborg. He was just coming off playing none other than Muhammad Ali in the play Fetch Clay, Make Man at the True Colors Theatre. Fisher had to add muscle mass to look like Ali, which he accomplished by doing plenty of weight training, using compound lifts, and eating a high protein diet. 

Flash - Ezra Miller

The Flash isn't known as the biggest superhero around, but that doesn't mean he isn't fit. As a runner, he doesn't need to be incredibly bulky, but some muscle helps when portraying the fastest man alive. Miller visibly bulked up in preparation for the role of Barry Allen.

Mera - Amber Heard

Mera isn't traditionally a member of the Justice League in the comic books, but she will have a role in the film. She is also an Atlantean and a fierce warrior in her own right. Heard prefers not to be stuck in a gym and does most of her exercise in the outdoors, with things like hiking, biking, and playing tennis.

While most of these characters appeared in the 2016 film Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, they will work together as a team for the first time in Justice League. Their commitment to intense workout routines and diet plans help them to look the team is ripped from the pages of DC Comics.
