Can I take the CSCS Test Online?

UPDATE 1/25/2016: The only option to take the CSCS Exam is now to schedule an exam at a Pearson VUE facility. There are various locations throughout the United States, such as colleges and other local facilities.
Unfortunately, you can’t simply take the Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist test online whenever you want. However, there are a couple convenient options for the exam, and you may even be able to take it in your city at a time of your choosing. The NSCA offers a couple different options for taking the CSCS certification exam. The two options are:
- A classic paper and pencil exam – The NSCA has a predetermined schedule of dates and locations across the United States and other locations throughout the world. If you want to check times and locations, click here. UPDATE: The classic paper and pencil exam is no longer offered. Using a Pearson VUE facility is the only option to book the test now.
- A computer-based exam – Pearson VUE facilities are now responsible for administering the exam. While this isn’t the same as a true online test, it has many of the same benefits. These include being able to schedule a flexible time in a spot that is most convenient for you. This gives you more control of your experience. You may be able to have the examination administered in a facility near you. There are a bunch of facilities, such as colleges and universities, across the United States and you can look for a Pearson VUE facility in your area at this link.
The NSCA probably doesn’t offer the CSCS test online in order to add legitimacy to the test. It isn’t meant to be an open book/open internet exam. Having the exam proctored, either at the facilities that offer paper and pencil options, or at the Pearson VUE facility, helps to prevent foul play.
When and where you take the test doesn’t impact the difficulty level of the exam. It is best to choose a time and location that is comfortable and convenient to you and gives you the best chance for success.
