If you are looking for a course to prepare for the CSCS certification exam, you have a few options you may want to look into.
NSCA Live Exam Prep Clinic
The NSCA occasionally holds live exam preparation clinics in various areas. These can be 1.5, 2, or 3-day in-person programs. They have a mix of lectures in a classroom and more hands-on and practical training. They also give an overview of the exam and strategies for taking the test. Check the NSCA’s website to see if any are upcoming near you.
Human Kinetics Course
Human Kinetics has an online study course that is used as a companion and goes through the entire book. It reviews all content, basically chapter-by-chapter, and also has review questions, practice videos, and a practice test that can be taken at the end. The course is very well-made and has plenty of interactive elements that make it much more interesting than just reading notes. This can also possibly be used for continuing education credits if you have another certification. You can see my review of the course here.
Khan Acadamy
The Khan academy is a free online training academy that covers a variety of different topics. While it doesn’t have a specific strength and conditioning course, it does have a Human Anatomy and Physiology course. If you come from more of a training or coaching background, rather than an exercise science educational background, this course may be a huge help to you. This free resource includes videos and text that do a pretty good job of introducing the content.
If anatomy and physiology is a newer topic for you, reading the CSCS book the first time may be intimidating. That’s why I suggest checking out Khan Academy, if nothing else other than to familiarize yourself with the terms and ideas covered. They includes all major human anatomy and physiology topics, such as circulatory system, respiratory system, nervous system, skeletal system, muscular and endocrine system. If just these categories seem crazy to you, you may want to consider running through this exam.
There are other free resources out there as well if you are looking for more information on the CSCS exam. YouTube, iTunes U and other resources are worth searching to answer specific questions you may have. You can also check out this guide to the CSCS certification. These CSCS courses do not guarantee success but if they will certainly get you started on the right path.
